The artwork centers on two key figures: the Jack of Hearts and the Jack of Diamonds, each representing the classic dualities of human emotion and desire. The Jack of Hearts is dramatically depicted with a knife through his skull, symbolizing the deep pain and betrayal often associated with love. In contrast, the Jack of Diamonds is portrayed wielding a dagger directed at his counterpart, embodying the cutthroat nature of financial pursuits. The dagger is subtly marked with red, suggesting its lethal use in the quest for wealth.
